The mystical archaeological site of Coba was once the most important and even largest city on the Yucatan peninsula, it probably had well over 50,000 inhabitants in its heyday until 200 BC, it is also the oldest ruined city here on the peninsula.
Whoever climbs the 42 m high pyramid there is rewarded with a breathtaking view of the green sea, the dense jungle.
Coba is a relatively young excavation site, very little excavated, the way from the entrance to the pyramid is about 1 mile, you can decide whether you want to explore the complex by bike or on foot, you can also do a “Triciclo”, a Freight tricycle, chauffeured in the shade of the tropical trees.
In Coba it is pleasant to go for a walk because you are always in the shade, only when you climb the pyramid you are exposed to the sun.
The visit to these old Mayan ruins that are hidden in the jungle can be combined with other excursions.
A visit to the cenote for refreshment is also part of the adventure.

In the freshwater cenotes on the Yucatan Peninsula, strict attention is paid to the water quality, because some of this water is still drunk.
The chemicals used in traditional sunscreen destroy corals and are harmful to marine life. Therefore, sun protection is no longer allowed in Mexico in many natural parks of the Riviera Maya and also on Cozumel.
